Who Can Join?

Our organization is mostly Chicana/Latina based, but we have an open-door policy which means members of all genders, race, ethnicities, or identities are more than welcome to join at any time. If for any reason you are unable to actively join us for sometime, you are always welcome to return at your convenience!  Once an hermana, always an hermana.

General Body Member

A general body member is any registered student of UCSD who attends our meetings and events.  You choose how involved you want to be.

Active Member

In order to reach active member status, you must complete the following requirements:

  1. Attend at least 30 study hours per academic year

  2. Complete 24 community service hours per academic year

Why be an Active Member?

If you are an active member, there are benefits that you may take advantage of.  As an active member, you are able to do the following:​

  1. Vote in our elections

  2. Run for Steering Committee

  3. Attend HaU's annual Conference

  4. Apply for the statewide HaU scholarship at Conference

Dues

Dues are not required but are asked of all members to help us host our many events we have throughout the year.  The breakdown of our yearly dues is:

       $36 ($12/quarter) - Gear Item

       $25 - Both Fall and Spring GB Retreats

       $10 - Conference Transportation

       $9 - Special Events

Members can either pay the complete amount at the beginning of fall quarter for $80 or split the cost amongst each quarter for a total of $90 ($30/quarter) .  If you join at a time other than the fall quarter, payment arrangements can be made with our Treasurer.

Why Pay Dues?

Dues are extremely important to our organization, because they provide us with the funds necessary to do everything we do.  Other than supporting us, listed below are some of the reasons why you should consider paying dues!​

  1. You will receive our quarterly gear at no additional cost

  2. You can attend our Fall and Spring Retreat at no additional cost

  3. You will have access to special events we host

  4. You get reduced prices on certain events we host

  5. You can apply for the annual HaU de UCSD scholarship

  6. You will be acknowledged at our end of the year Banquet if you are an active member

  7. You can apply for an hermana/hermanita
