Academics

Mission: Through the emphasis of academics, not only do we empower our minds, but our future as well.

As an Hermana, we support academics by encouraging our members to attend the study hours and study jams we host.  Study hours are held on a weekly basis at various times, so you are bound to almost always have someone to study with. Meanwhile, study jams are held with other organizations a few times throughout the quarter.  We believe that by studying with others, you are given the opportunity to both network and work together in achieving your academic goals, whether it is getting that A, finishing an assignment, or simply passing a class.  We want you all to succeed, and we do understand that a different support might be needed to achieve your academic goals.  This is why we offer an academic scholarship to an Hermana at our annual Banquet.  For a schedule of the weekly study hours, click the button below.

Community Service

Mission: In the struggle to empower ourselves, we must remember our communities and empower them as well.

The Hermanas uphold this pillar through the different community service events we volunteer at or organize ourselves.  You may usually find us volunteering at the food bank, completing campus tours, helping with the EAOP Comienza con un Sueno, and more!  One of the major events we host ourselves is called Love the Homeless, which is where we gather together to make sandwiches and distribute food to the homeless population of downtown San Diego.  Whether it is picking up cigarette buds or participating in a clothing drive, we are all about giving back to our community and helping others.

Collegial Networking

Mission: In stressing Hermandad, a family network is created to foster an environment of mutual respect and unity, while supporting individual interests and talents.

With UC San Diego having such a large campus, you may find that it is difficult to network with others or to even find a comfortable space for yourself.  Since the Hermanas want to help members expand their connections and to help them form special bonds, we host social events with organizations both on campus and from other colleges.  This gives you the opportunity to meet many other people who may have similar goals and interests as you.  Each year, the Hermanas Unidas Inc. also holds a statewide conference for members throughout California to gather together and meet one another.
